How to Combine Work at Home and Childcare

Parents working from home need to multi task a lot and at certain moments of life be able to perform superpowers. There are some strategies to follow in order to master both work and childcare.

1. Create a Decent Workplace

Home

To create a proper work atmosphere at home, first of all, you need to create a perfect workplace. Of course, it's nice to have a whole room for a domestic office, but if you don't have one - it's not a problem. Most importantly, there should be a certain area with all necessary things at hand for you to feel like in a real office. If you don't have a separate room for it, you can divide the space into zones. Make distinct borders between zones. Besides, what you really need is to make your kids understand your work is very important. They should know where to play and not bother you too much.

Another thing you can do is to pretend you are working in a real office, this means you and your kids can treat the time you spend working at home equal to the time you could be away daily in a real office. In a real office, you would not mix working with cleaning up or washing the dishes, so avoid doing it in a domestic office.
At first, it might seem hard not to be distracted, but you need to put some effort into it.

2. Fix Hours to Get Down to Kids' Stuff

It's impossible to spend 8 hours a day without paying attention to kids. Make breaks in your working hours to prepare lunch for kids or get them off to sleep. The smaller your kids are - the more care they require and the more time you need to relax. Set real goals, don't demand too much of yourself, otherwise working from home will turn into a nightmare.

3. How to Achieve the Best Results

Kids may misbehave either trying to attract your attention or due to being bored. You can either make small tasks for your kids (like drawing something for you) or let them take part in what you are doing. They can buy Stationery or bring newspapers and paper mail. Let them feel their assistance really matters. In this case, they will try to do their best to help you. Try to team work with your kids, let them understand how important they are for you.
